How You and Your Puggle Puppy Should Behave in the Dog Park

Summer time is the perfect season to frequent the dog park. You get to spend time outdoors, play with your Puggle puppy and enjoy the beautiful weather. But do you know the unwritten rules of dog parks? Freshen up with these tips before you hit the scene!

1. Poo clean up. This may seem like a no-brainer but there are many people who simply forget or don’t care about cleaning up after their dog. Come prepared with bags so there’s no excuse for not cleaning up the poo!

2. No food! It may seem like the place to enjoy a bag of chips or share some beef jerky with your Puggle puppy. But taking food can easily turn a nice afternoon in to chaos. All the other dogs at the park will easily sniff out your treats and be on your like flies on…well, you know. Leave all food in the car or at home!

3. Tiny humans stay at home! It’s a park but for dogs. That means it’s made, built and maintained for the dogs, not for kids. Small children can easily be knocked down by hyper, excited dogs. And some dogs are not comfortable around children. There are plenty of parks for the kids so leave the dog parks to the dogs!

4. Toy thieves! We’ve all met them. Whether it was our older siblings or bullies at school, we’ve all been a victim of losing our favorite toy. Don’t let your Puggle puppy experience that sorrow. Dogs don’t know how to share or to bring the toy back when they’re done with it. If you don’t want to lose the favorite toy, leave it at home and buy some cheap tennis balls or squeaky toys your Puggle won’t miss if they go AWOL.

5. Safety first – take off the leash. This may seem silly but dogs that feel trapped when being dominated by another dog can easily turn aggressive. Allow your Puggle puppy an escape route so he can run, play and be a puppy at the dog park! If there seems to be a dog that just won’t stop picking on your Puggle, calmly talk to the owner or come back another time.

6. No attitude, no problem. We may all believe that our Puggle puppies are the best behaved out of any dog at the park. But keep a close eye on him. If you see him being too rough or causing problems with another dog, correct him. Nobody likes a dog owner that simply allows the dog to run amuck, causing havoc everywhere he goes.
